Yam Deep Daan Puja Vidhi Overview
As you must be aware that before Diwali, after Dhanteras comes hell Chaturdashi, Yamdev is worshiped on this day. Deepdan also has a lot of importance on this day. Deep Daan means offering a lamp in the name of a deity.
On this day a lamp is lit in the name of Lord Yama. The lamp which is lit in the name of Yama Devta is also known as Yamadeep. Yamdeep should always be kept in the south direction. It is believed that Yamlok is situated in the south direction. By donating Yama Deep, a person does not have the fear of premature death.
Puja Vidhi:
- First of all, make a swastika with roli on a clean post and place a four-faced lamp made of flour or clay at that place.
- Do Achan with Ganga water thrice around the lamp and apply roli to the lamp.
- Now offer rice and flowers on the lamp and put some sugar in the lamp.
- After this, put a coin of 1 rupee in the lamp and apply tilak to all the members of the house and bow down to the lamp along with all the members of the house.
- After that, bow to the lamp and keep it at the main entrance of the house. While lighting the lamp, keep in mind that both your face and the flame of the lamp should be in the south direction.
- Offer something sweet on the lamp.
- Praying Yama Deepak / Yama Deep Daan Mantra with full devotion and with folded hands, pray to God to increase the life of all the members of the house.
Yam Dev Puja Mantra
मृत्युना पाशदण्डाभ्यां कालेन च मया सह ।
त्रयोदश्यां दीपदानात् सूर्यजः प्रीयतामिति ।।
