Vinayaka Chavithi Pooja Vidhanam Overview

Ganesha is known as the remover of obstacles and the offspring of Shiva, the Hindu god of destruction and his consort the goddess Parvathi. Several myths detail his birth and acquisition of the elephant head. These myths vary by region, tradition, and sect.

Hindus celebrate the festival of ‘Vinayaka Chavithi’ on the same day as ‘Bhadrapada Suddha Chavithi’ which is the birthday of Lord Vinayaka. On the day of Vinayaka Chavithi, one should get up early and clean the house. After that Talantu should take a bath and wash and put on clothes. Mamidakus should build arches and decorate the house. Write turmeric on the pedestal and place it in the north-east or north direction of the house. Put rice in a plate and put betel leaves on it. After performing the Deeparadhana, light the Agaruvaths and start the Puja by chanting the following mantra.

శ్లోకం: ‘ఓం దేవీంవాచ మజనయంత దేవాస్తాం విశ్వరూపా: పశవో వదంతి.. సానో మంద్రేష మూర్జం దుహానాధే నుర్వాగాస్మానుప సుష్టుతైత్తు అయం ముహూర్తస్సుముహూర్తోస్తు’ య శ్శివో నామరూపాభ్యాం యా దేవీ సర్వ మంగళా తయో స్సంస్మరణా త్సుంసాం సర్వతో జయమంగళం’ అని చదువుకోవాలి.

పీటపై వినాయక ప్రతిమను ఉంచి, పాలవెల్లికి పసుపు రాసి, కుంకుమతో బొట్టు పెట్టి విగ్రహం తలపై వచ్చేలా దాన్ని వేలాడదీయాలి. దీనిపై పత్రి వేసి నలువైపులా మొక్కజొన్న పొత్తులు, పళ్లతో అలంకరించాలి. ఉండ్రాళ్లు, కుడుములు, పాయసం, గారెలు, పులిహోర, మోదకులు, జిల్లెడుకాయలు మొదలైన పిండివంటలు సిద్దం చేసుకోవాలి. రాగి లేదా ఇత్తడి పాత్రను తీసుకుని పసుపు రాసి, అందులో నీళ్లువేసి, పైన టెంకాయ, జాకెట్టు ఉంచి కలశం ఏర్పాటు చేయాలి.

Method of worship (పూజా విధానం)

ఓం కేశవాయ స్వాహాః

 ఓం నారాయణాయ స్వాహాః,

ఓం మాధవాయ స్వాహాః

అని మూడుసార్లు చేతిలో నీరు వేసుకొని ఆచమనం చేసుకోవాలి. అనంతరం ఈ కింది శ్లోకాలను ఉచ్చరించాలి.( That should be done three times with water in hand. Then recite the following verses.)

గోవిందాయ నమః

 విష్ణవే నమః

 మధుసూదనాయ నమః

 త్రివిక్రమాయ నమః,

వామనాయ నమః

 శ్రీధరాయ నమః

 హృషీకేశాయ నమః

 పద్మనాభాయ నమః

 దామోదరాయ నమః

 సంకర్షణాయ నమః

వాసుదేవాయ నమః

ప్రద్యుమ్నాయ నమః

 అనిరుద్దాయ నమః

 పురుషోత్తమాయ నమః

అధోక్షజాయ నమః

నారసింహాయ నమః

 అచ్యుతాయ నమః

 ఉపేంద్రాయ నమః

హరయే నమః

 శ్రీ కృష్ణాయ నమః

 శ్రీకృష్ణ పరబ్రహ్మణే నమఃఓం శ్రీలక్ష్మీ నారాయణాభ్యాం నమః

Akshantas should be sprinkled on God with the right hand chanting the following mantra:
