Sharad Purnima Vrat Katha Overview

Story of sharad purima
Once upon a time in Dwapar Yuga, Yashoda ji said to Krishna – O Krishna! You are the creator, nurturer and destroyer of the whole world, tell me today such a fast, due to which women are not afraid of becoming widows in the world of death and this fast will fulfill the wishes of all human beings. Shri Krishna started saying – O mother! You have asked a beautiful question. I tell you this kind of fasting in detail. To get good luck, women should observe fast for thirty-two full months. Women get good fortune by observing this fast. This fast gives immovable good fortune and increases the devotion of all human beings towards Lord Shiva. Yashoda ji started saying – O Krishna! Tell me in detail about who first performed this fast in the world of death.
Shri Krishna ji started saying that on this earth there was a city named ‘Katika’ full of many types of gems, which was owned by a very famous king Chandrahas. There was a brahmin named Dhaneshwar and his wife was very sushila roopvati. Both of them lived in that city with great love. There was no shortage of money and food in the house. He had a great sadness that he did not have any children, he used to be very sad due to this sorrow. Once a great ascetic yogi came to that city. Except that Brahmin’s house, that yogi used to bring alms from all other houses and eat food. He did not take alms from Rupavati. One day that yogi did not take alms from Rupavati and took alms from some other house and was eating alms with love that Dhaneshwar saw all this work of Yogi in some way.
Purnima Vrat Vidhi:
- After retiring from bath etc. in the morning, the person who worships should make a banana pavilion and establish a statue of Shiva-Parvati at a holy place after filling it with flour.
- After that, wearing new clothes, sit on the seat facing east and take a resolution with water in hand with the pronunciation of Deshkaladi.
- After that, invoke and worship Lord Ganesha. Then invoke Varuna and other gods and worship the urn, offer sandalwood etc., show the urn posture and ring the bell. Offer obeisances to the bell and lamp with incense and akshata.
- After this, ‘Om whether unholy or holy or in all states. He who remembers the lotus-eyed Lord is clean from the outside and inside’ Sprinkle the worship materials and water on yourself with this mantra.
- Invoke and worship the eight guardians of the worlds like Indra. Bathe Shiva with the following mantra Mandara Malakulijalakayai, Kapalamalakintashekharayai. Saraswati with the warm waters of the Narmada river for her divine clothes I have bathed you, O goddess, and therefore grant me peace.
- Have Parvati take a bath with the following mantra – Namo Devyai Mahadevyai Satatam Namah. Obeisance to nature, the auspicious, the self-controlled, the prostrate, the smile. After that, perform Panchopachara pooja.
- Show sandalwood, akshat, flowers, incense, lamp. Then offer Naivedya and get it done. Surrender the ubtan for infinite hands. Then offer betel nut, offer dakshina and do namaskar.
- After this, perform Maha Abhishek by immersing Nirmalya towards the north. Infinitely surrender beautiful clothes, get the sacrifice made. Offer sandalwood, akshat and sapta dhanya. Then offer turmeric, kumkum, manglik vermilion etc.
- Surrender palm leaves (bhojpatra), garland garland etc. Offer fragrant flowers and give incense. Offer Naivedya by showing a lamp. Then leave water to wash your hands and face. Offer sandalwood. Offer coconut and season fruit.
- Offer tambul betel nut and dakshina. Perform camphor aarti and offer wreaths. Listen to the story by worshiping in all kinds of ways.
चंद्रदेव की आरती
ॐ जय सोम देवा, स्वामी जय सोम देवा।
दुःख हरता सुख करता, जय आनन्दकारी।
रजत सिंहासन राजत, ज्योति तेरी न्यारी।
दीन दयाल दयानिधि, भव बंधन हारी।
जो कोई आरती तेरी, प्रेम सहित गावे।
सकल मनोरथ दायक, निर्गुण सुखराशि।
योगीजन हृदय में, तेरा ध्यान धरें।
ब्रह्मा विष्णु सदाशिव, संत करें सेवा।
वेद पुराण बखानत, भय पातक हारी।
प्रेमभाव से पूजें, सब जग के नारी।
शरणागत प्रतिपालक, भक्तन हितकारी।
धन सम्पत्ति और वैभव, सहजे सो पावे।
विश्व चराचर पालक, ईश्वर अविनाशी।
सब जग के नर नारी, पूजा पाठ करें।
