Marked by announcement and presentation of honor roll for Rajyotsava awards by the government, community festivals, orchestra, Kannada book launches and hoisting of the official Karnataka flag with the state governor’s address.

How Karnataka got its name?

The root of the word Karnataka is Sanskrit. Karnataka is derived from the Sanskrit word Kannada. It means Kannadigara Nadu, Kannadu, Kannada Nadu.

But there are many opinions about the origin or meaning of the word Karnataka. It is said that the word Karunadu = Karunadu became Karnataka.

Karu means black, which also means land of black soil. Old texts suggest that it is derived from the word Karnataka, some sources translate Karnataka to high land.
In July 1972, a debate broke out regarding the fact that North Karnataka should be renamed as Karnataka instead of Mysore for the recognition of the people.

After long debates, it was unanimously approved in the state assembly as well.

Kannada Rajyotsava

Aluru Venkata Rao was the first to dream of uniting the state with the Karnataka Unification Movement in 1905. In 1950, India became a republic and different provinces were formed in the country based on the language spoken in a particular region.
And this gave birth to the kingdom of Mysore, which included various parts of southern India, previously ruled by kings.

On 1 November 1956, the Mysore State, comprising most of the former Mysore State, merged with the Kannada-speaking areas of the Bombay and Madras Presidencies, along with the Principality of Hyderabad to form a unified Kannada.
Sub-national unit of speaking. North Karnataka, Malenadu (Canara) and Old Mysore were thus the three regions of the newly formed Mysore State.

The newly united state initially retained the name “Mysore”, the former princely state that formed the core of the new entity.

But the people of northern Karnataka were not inclined to retain the name Mysore, as it was closely associated with the former state and the southern regions of the new state. In line with this rationale, the name of the state was changed to “Karnataka” on 1 November 1973.

Devraj Arasu was the Chief Minister of the state when this important decision was taken.
Other figures credited with the unification of Karnataka include K Sivarama Karanta, Kuvempu, Masti Venkatesa Iyengar, AN Krishna Rao and BM Srikanthaiah.

Karnataka Rajyotsava celebrations

Karnataka is one of the four

Karnataka is divided into four parts – Mysore State, Mumbai Karnataka, Hyderabad Karnataka and Madras Karnataka. In all these parts, Kannada speakers are recognized.

The process of acceding majority areas to Karnataka is underway. The surrounding Kannada states were included in Karnataka.

Finally, in 1956, Karnataka was unified. Kannada Rajyotsava has also started! The name of the state is Mysore. Because the first creation of Karnataka was based on the state of Mysore. In 1973, the state of Mysore was renamed as Karnataka.

As November 1 is a public holiday, it is celebrated in commercial establishments on the following days of the week. Kannada flags are prominently flown and displayed in almost all offices and business establishments in Bangalore city.
