Poli Swargam Katha Overview
Lamps made of rice flour are mostly used. The festival is held as Polisvarga on the day of reaching Poli Vaikuntha by praying to Lord Vishnu with pure devotion despite all the obstacles. The next question is whether we will reach heaven with the bondi if we light the lamps in the month of Kartika. The implication of this story is that when there is a mind to follow the ritual, the path will present itself.
Story of Poli Swargam Katha:
There is a story to explain why this day came to be called Poli swargam. Poli Swargam Noma is one of the Nomas celebrated by women with the greatest devotion. This Nomu, which has been maintaining its existence since ancient times, is also influencing the women of this generation. Who is similar? What is the story behind her? What is the ritual that goes along with it? That means interesting answers will be heard.
Poliswargam is a typical Telugu story. The gatha indicates not only the importance of the lamp in the month of Kartika, but also the need to observe the ritual unsullied. That is, there was a joint family in a village. There were five daughters-in-law in that family. All of them have a great interest in worship and rituals from childhood. But the same interest was annoying to her mother-in-law. The mother-in-law believes that there is no other devotee like her. It is her ego that she has the right to follow rituals. That’s why when the month of Kartik comes, she takes the other heifers and not the little heifer to the river.
There she used to take a nice bath in the river with her daughters-in-law and light the lamps. In the meantime, the mother-in-law was careful not to have any of the materials required for lighting the lamp in the house, as she suspected where the daughter-in-law would light the lamp.
The mother-in-law’s efforts to avoid lighting the similar lamp in the month of Kartikam were unsuccessful. It is similar to taking some cotton from the cotton tree in the yard and making cotton with it. She puts butter on it and lights the lamp. The lamp is also covered with a basket so that no one can see it. It is like lighting the lamps uninterruptedly throughout the month of Kartik.
At last the day of Amavasya came. Since it was the last day of the month of Kartik, the mother-in-law went out to take a bath in the river and let off the lights of Kartik. Poli went on and on and handed over all the housework without bothering to light the lamps that day too. But Polly finished the housework neatly as usual and lit Kartika’s lamp. No matter how many problems and how difficult it was, the angels were pleased to see the form of Dharmacharana. Soon a plane came down to take her to Heaven in a cradle.
