Maa Katyayani Vrat Katha Overview
Katyayani Mata is worshiped on the sixth day of Navratri. Katyayani Mata is one of the various miraculous forms of Mother Goddess.
One of the 51 Shakti Peethas dedicated to Mother Goddess, Shri Katyayani Shaktipeeth is adorned at a place called Vrindavan in Uttar Pradesh. This place is very siddha and miraculous. Mata Katyayani fulfills all kinds of crises from the lives of her devotees and fulfills all their wishes.

Story of Maa Katyayani:
There is also a story of how the mother’s name was Katyayani – there was a famous Maharishi named Kat. His son became Rishi Katya. The world famous Maharishi Katyayan was born in the gotra of this Katya. While worshiping Bhagwati Paramba, he had done very hard penance for many years. His wish was that Mother Bhagwati should be born in his house as a daughter. Mother Bhagwati accepted his prayer. After some time, when the tyranny of the demon Mahishasura increased on the earth, then Lord Brahma, Vishnu, Mahesh all three, giving their share of their glory, created a goddess for the destruction of Mahishasura. Maharishi Katyayan first worshiped him.
For this reason she was called Katyayani. There is also a story that she was born there as a daughter of Maharishi Katyayan. After taking birth on Ashwin Krishna Chaturdashi, for three days till Shukla Saptami, Ashtami and Navami, he took the worship of Katyayan Rishi and killed Mahishasura on the tenth day. Mother Katyayani is unfailingly fruitful. To get Lord Krishna in the form of husband, the gopis of Braj worshiped him on the banks of Kalindi-Yamuna. She is revered as the presiding deity of Braj Mandal.
The form of Maa Katyayani is very bright and powerful. He has four arms. The upper right hand of the Mother is in Abhayamudra and the lower one is in Varamudra. In the upper hand on the left hand is adorned with a sword and in the lower hand is a lotus flower. The lion is his conveyance. By the devotion and worship of Mother Katyayani, man easily attains the four fruits of Artha, Dharma, Kama, Moksha. Even being situated in this world, he becomes full of supernatural brilliance and influence.
कात्यायनी माता की आरती
जय जय अंबे जय कात्यायनी।
जय जगमाता जग की महारानी॥
बैजनाथ स्थान तुम्हारी।
वहां वरदानी नाम पुकारा॥
कई नाम है कई धाम हैं।
यह स्थान भी तो सुखधाम है॥
हर मंदिर में जोत तुम्हारी।
कही योगेश्वरी महिमा न्यारी॥
हर जगह उत्सव होते रहते।
हर मंदिर में भक्त हैं कहते॥
कात्यायनी रक्षक काया की।
ग्रंथि काटे मोह माया की॥
झूठे मोह से छुड़ानेवाली।
अपना नाम जपनेवाली॥
बृहस्पतिवार को पूजा करियो।
ध्यान कात्यायनी का धरियो॥
हर संकट को दूर करेगी।
भंडारे भरपूर करेगी॥
जो भी माँ को भक्त पुकारे।
कात्यायनी सब कष्ट निवारे॥
Puja Vidhi:
- Sadhak needs to be pure before worshiping Maa Katyayani.
- Sadhak should first take bath and wear clean clothes.
- After this, all the deities should be worshiped after establishing the first Kalash.
- Only after that the worship of Maa Katyayani should be started.
- With flowers in hand before starting the worship

The flower should be offered at the feet of the mother while chanting the mantra.
