Festival is a celebration of life. It brings peace and joy to the masses and breaks the monotony of life. We can divide festivals of India in three types – national, religious and seasonal.
National festivals : National festivals, such as Independence Day and Republic Day, are celebrated with great enthusiasm. They also happen to be national holidays and take place across the country at different times of the year.
Religious festivals: The religious festivals of India include Dussehra, Diwali, Janmastami, Shivratri, Ram Navami, Holi, Navarati, Eid-ul-Zuha, Eid-ul-fitr, Christmass, Buddha Purnima, Mahavir Jayanti and the festivals of the Parsees and the Jews. India has an extremely diverse religious population. There are many religious festivals practiced across religions and culture groups in the state, which makes it difficult for people to avoid practicing them on different days.
Seasonal festivals: The seasonal festivals are celebrated in different ways all over the country. Seasonal changes mark the new beginnings. Happiness fills the hearts of the people during these festivals. The Hindu festivals like Baishakhi, Masi Magam, Vasant Panchami and Makar Sankranti are one of the most celebrated festivals in India.
