Karva Chauth Vrat Katha Overview
A Brahmin had seven sons and an only daughter named Viravati. Being the only sister of seven brothers, Veeravati was loved by all the brothers and all the brothers loved her more than their own lives. After some time Veeravati got married to a Brahmin youth. After the marriage, Veeravati came to her maternal grandmother’s house and then she observed Karva Chauth with her sister-in-law, But by the end of the evening she was suffering from hunger. All the brothers sat down to eat and begged their sister to eat too, but the sister told that today she has a waterless fast of Karva Chauth and this food can be eaten only after looking at the moon and offering Arogya. . But the moon has not yet come out, so he is troubled by hunger and thirst.
This condition of Veeravati is not seen by her brothers and then one of the brothers lights a lamp on the peepal tree and puts it in a basket. Looking from a distance, he felt as if the moon had come out. Then a brother came and told Veeravati that the moon has come out, you can eat after offering arghya to her. The sister happily climbed the stairs and looked at the moon and after offering it, Arghya sat down to eat. As soon as he put the first piece in his mouth, he sneezed. When the second piece was inserted, the hair came out. After that, as she tried to put the third piece in her mouth, she got the news of her husband’s death.
His sister-in-law makes him aware of the truth as to why this happened to him. The gods are angry with him for breaking the fast of Karva Chauth wrongly. Once Indrani’s wife Indrani came to earth on the day of Karvachauth and Viravati went to her and prayed for her husband’s safety. Goddess Indrani asked Veeravati to observe Karva Chauth fast with full devotion and rituals. This time Veeravati kept the fast of Karva Chauth with full devotion. Seeing her devotion and devotion, Prabhu was pleased and blessed Veeravati Sadasuhagan that her husband was going to revive. Since then, women started having unwavering faith in Karva Chauth fasting.
