History of Shivaji Maharaj in Hindi

Shivaji Maharaj was born on 19 February 1630 at a place called Shivneri in Pune district. His father’s name was Shahjiraje Bhosale and his mother’s name was Jijabai Bhosale, who was also known by her surname Jijamata.

His father was a great general. He established the Maratha Empire. It is believed that his father had served in the Ahmednagar Sultanate, Bijapur Sultanate, and the Mughal Empire at different times. Chhatrapati Shivaji was a very powerful king and also a great strategist. Shivaji ruled from 1674 to 1680. The foundation of the Maratha Empire was laid.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is also considered the great hero of the Republic of India and the pride of the Maratha Empire. Shivaji Maharaj is considered extremely intelligent, brave, fearless, most powerful, brave and also a very efficient ruler. By organizing the Marathas on the strength of his skill and ability, he established the Maratha Empire in the year 1674 AD in western India.

  • The beginning of the disintegration of the Mughal Empire began in the 17th century. This led to the rise of independent states in different regions. Among them, the politically important and powerful state was the Maratha state. Which was founded by Shivaji.
  • The geographical location of the Maratha region, Hindu awakening as a result of Aurangzeb’s anti-Hindu policies, religious movement of Maratha saint poets were important factors in the rise of Marathas.
  • In the context of the original entry of the Marathas, modern historians believe that the Marathas were a mixture of Aryans and Dravidians. The region which is now called Maharashtra, in the Middle Ages included the Konkan region of the western coast, the modern region of Khandesh and Berar, the Nagpur region, some part of the south and a third of the Nizam’s kingdom. This land area was called Marathwada, which later came to be called Maharashtra.
  • Shivaji, the founder of the Maratha kingdom, was born in 1627 AD at Shivner near Poona. Shivaji’s father Shahji Bhonsle was appointed in the service of Bijapur state, Shivaji’s mother Jijabai was a princess of the Yadav family.
  • Shivaji’s guru was Samarth Swami Ramdas. At the age of 19, in 1646 AD, Shivaji had taken control of the fort of Torana located near Poona by forming a team of some Mawali people. Shivaji snatched Raigad, Chakan from the Sultan of Bijapur in 1646 AD and also the forts of Baramati, Indrapur, Sinhagad and Purandar in 1647 AD.
  • Shivaji also captured the fort of Kalyan and Javali in Konkan in 1656. In 1656 AD Shivaji made his capital Raigad. Shivaji faced the Mughals for the first time during the reign of Shah Jahan in 1657 AD, when Aurangzeb, the Subedar of the South, invaded Bijapur and Bijapur sought Shivaji’s help against the Mughals.
  • Aurangzeb sent Raja Jai ​​Singh of Amer in 1665 AD to control Shivaji. Raja Jai ​​Singh was a shrewd diplomat, he captured most of Shivaji’s enemies and took control of Shivaji’s forts.
  • Shivaji finally had to enter into a treaty with Raja Jai ​​Singh in June 1665, which is known as the “Treaty of Purandar”. According to this union, Shivaji handed over 23 of his 35 forts to the Mughals and Shivaji’s eldest son Sambhaji was made five Hazari Mansabdar from the Mughal court.
  • Shivaji was also convinced by Raja Jai ​​Singh to attend the Mughal court in Agra as part of diplomacy, with Raja Jai ​​Singh telling him that he would be made the subedar of the Mughal provinces of the south. Shivaji appeared in the Mughal court in May 1666, where he was treated like a third class mansabdar and was also placed under house arrest.
  • But it was only in November 1666 HD that he escaped from the captivity of the Mughals with his son Sambhaji. Finally, in 1668 AD, Aurangzeb made a treaty with Shivaji and gave Shivaji the title of Raja and equal jagir. Thereafter, in 1674 HD, Shivaji also performed his coronation as an independent ruler of Maharashtra in the fort of Raigad and also assumed the title of “Chhatrapati”.
  • During the Carnatic campaign in 1677 AD, Shivaji conquered about 100 forts of Ginji, Madurai, Belur etc. and Karnataka, Tamil Nadu. Shivaji died on 12 April 1680.
