On 14 September 1949, the Constituent Assembly decided that Hindi would also be the official language of the Central Government. Because Hindi language was spoken mostly in most areas in India, therefore it was decided to make Hindi the national language and in order to expound the importance of this decision and to spread Hindi in every region, from the year 1953 on 14th September every year Hindi- Day is celebrated.
On this day, the Constituent Assembly of India had given the status of official language to Hindi language, since then Hindi Diwas was started on 14 September every year for the promotion and propagation of this language. Every country in the world has its own language, it is called national language. The national language of our country India is Hindi. It is the language of common communication in our country. It is also called the official language of our country. It was adopted by the Constituent Assembly soon after independence in 1947. Every year 14 September is celebrated as Hindi Diwas in the country.
National language is also needed to maintain national unity in the country. Speaking the national language gives mental satisfaction. Hindi ranks fourth among the most spoken languages in the whole world. The script of Hindi is Devanagari, which is the script of the gods. This language is used more especially in North India. People of South India mostly use English language, who do not understand Hindi properly. Millions of people in India still do not know Hindi. This is because the inclusion of Sanskrit words in it has made it difficult.
Today, the English language has taken over everywhere in the country. There is no doubt that English is essential for international conversation but today children are strictly forced to learn Hindi. We have to take steps to save our national language. We have to simplify Hindi and free it from difficult Sanskrit versions.

Hindi language being the ancient, rich and simple language of the world, Hindi is also our ‘national language’. Hindi language is the most spoken language in the world. Our India is very much influenced by western customs. Indian people wear nutritious like the people there. Indians follow the lifestyle there.
