The festival of Dhanteras can remove sorrow and poverty from the life of any person. On this day, if you worship with complete rituals and do cleanliness in your house, then there is never any shortage of wealth and blessings in your house. If you want to take full advantage of this worship, then also recite Dhanteras fasting story on this day.
Story of Dhanteras :
It is said that at one time Lord Vishnu was coming to roam in the world of death, when Lakshmi ji also requested him to accompany him. Then Vishnu said that if you believe what I say, then come again. Then Lakshmi ji agreed to him and came to the earth with Lord Vishnu. After some time, after reaching a place, Lord Vishnu told Lakshmi ji that you stay here until I come. I am going towards south, don’t you come there. On the departure of Vishnu, Lakshmi was curious that what is the secret in the south direction that I have been forbidden and God himself went away.
Lakshmi ji did not stay away and as soon as God moved forward, Lakshmi also followed. After going a short distance, he saw a mustard field which was full of flowers. Seeing the beauty of mustard, she was mesmerized and went ahead after plucking flowers and doing her makeup. On going further, Lakshmi ji plucked sugarcane from a sugarcane field and started sucking the juice.
At that very moment Vishnu ji came and got angry on Lakshmi ji and cursed her that I had forbidden you to come here, but you did not listen and committed the crime of stealing the farmer. Now you serve this farmer for 12 years for this crime. Saying this the Lord left them and went to Kshirsagar. Then Lakshmi ji started living in the house of that poor farmer.
One day Laxmiji told the farmer’s wife that after taking a bath, first worship this goddess Lakshmi, made by me, then make a kitchen, then you will get what you ask for. The farmer’s wife did the same. Due to the effect of worship and the grace of Lakshmi, the farmer’s house was filled with food, money, gems, gold etc. from the very second day itself. Lakshmi completed the farmer with money and grains. The farmer’s 12 years were spent with great joy. Then after 12 years Lakshmiji agreed to go.
When Vishnu came to pick up Lakshmi, the farmer refused to send him. Then God told the farmer that who lets them go, they are fickle, they do not stay anywhere. Big could not stop them. She was cursed by me, so she was serving you for 12 years. Your 12 years of service have been completed. The farmer stubbornly said that no, now I will not let Lakshmiji go.
Then Laxmiji said that O farmer, you want to stop me, then do what I say. Tomorrow is teres. You clean the house tomorrow by leaps and bounds. Keeping a lamp of ghee lit in the night and worshiping me in the evening and keeping money in a copper urn for me, I will reside in that urn.But I will not see you at the time of worship. I will not leave your house for the whole year by worshiping this one day. Saying this she spread in the ten directions with the light of the lamps. The next day the farmer worshiped according to the legend of Lakshmiji. His house was filled with wealth. For this reason Lakshmiji was worshiped every year on the day of Teras.

।जय धन्वं.।।
