Budhwar Vrat Katha Overview
Mercury represents the day of Wednesday. Therefore, the person who fasts on Wednesday gets positive virtues in the Mahadasha and Antardasha of the planet Mercury running in his horoscope.
Lord Shri Ganesha is also worshiped on Wednesday. If you or your children do not feel like studying, then by offering Durva grass to Lord Shri Ganesh on Wednesdays, the obstacles in the work related to studies will end and Ganesh ji will also receive special blessings.
Story of Budhwar Vrat:
A person named Madhusudan lived in Samtapur city. He was very rich. Madhusudan was married to Sangeeta, a beautiful and virtuous girl from Balrampur Nagar. Once Madhusudan went to Balrampur on Wednesday to take his wife.
Madhusudan asks the wife’s parents to send Sangeetha away. The parents said- ‘Son, today is Wednesday. Do not travel for any auspicious work on Wednesday. After a lot of insistence, Sangeeta’s parents were forced to send both of them away.
Both started the journey by bullock cart. After traveling for two kos, one wheel of his car broke down. From there both started their journey on foot. Sangeeta felt thirsty on the way. Madhusudan made him sit under a tree and went to get water.
After some time, when Madhusudan returned from somewhere with water, he was very surprised because another person of his own appearance was sitting beside his wife. Sangeeta was also surprised to see Madhusudan. She could not differentiate between the two. Madhusudan asked that person- ‘Who are you and why are you sitting near my wife? After listening to Madhusudan, that person said – ‘ Hey brother, this is my wife Sangeeta. I brought my wife after sending her away from her in-laws house. But who are you to ask me such a question?
Madhusudan almost shouted, ‘You must be a thief or a swindler. This is my wife Sangeeta. I went to get water by sitting it under the tree. On this the person said – ‘Oh brother! You are telling lies. When Sangeeta was thirsty, I went to fetch water. I have even brought water and given it to my wife to drink. Now you keep walking quietly from here. Otherwise, I will call a constable and get you arrested.
Both started fighting with each other. Seeing them fighting, many people gathered there. Some soldiers of the city also came there. The soldiers caught both of them and took them to the king. Even the king could not take any decision after listening to the whole story. Sangeeta was also unable to recognize her real husband among them.
The king asked to put both of them in jail. The real Madhusudan was horrified at the king’s decision. That’s why there was a sky-‘ Madhusudan! You did not listen to Sangeeta’s parents and left your in-laws house on Wednesday. All this is happening due to the wrath of Lord Buddha.
Madhusudan prayed to Lord Budhadev that ‘ O Lord Budhadev please forgive me. I made a big mistake. In future, I will never travel on Wednesdays and will always observe your fast on Wednesdays. Lord Buddha forgave him after Madhusudan prayed. Then the other person disappeared in front of the king. The king and other people were surprised to see this miracle. With this grace of Lord Buddha, the king respectfully sent Madhusudan and his wife away.
After walking some distance, they found a bullock cart on the way. The broken wheel of the bullock cart was also attached. Both sat in it and went towards Samtapur. Madhusudan and his wife Sangeeta both started living happily by fasting on Wednesday.
Due to the grace of Lord Budhdev, it started raining wealth in his house. Soon his life was filled with happiness. By fasting on Wednesday, all the auspicious wishes are fulfilled in the life of men and women. And the fasting person doesn’t face any problem if he travels for some important work on Wednesday.
Puja Vidhi:
- On Wednesday morning, retire from all work, take a bath and become pure.
- Worship Lord Mercury.
- The fasting person must wear green garland or clothes.
- If there is no idol of Lord Buddha, the idol of Lord Shankar or Lord Ganesha can also be worshipped.
- Fasting should be done with fruits only for the whole day.
- In the evening, one should eat at one time after performing Sandhya Aarti.
- Donation of green colored clothes, flowers and vegetables must be given during Wednesday fast.
- Curd, moong dal pudding or things made of green things should be consumed at one time during Wednesday fast.
