Story of Budh Pradosh Vrat:
Sut ji said – Now I will tell you the story and method of Wednesday Trayodashi fast. Eat only one time on the day of this fast. Wear green clothes and eat green things. Waking up early in the morning and retiring from the routine, worship Shankar ji with dhoop-lamp, bel patra. There is a story of ancient times, a man had many new marriages. He reached his in-laws house for the second time after Gauna to bring his wife and he told his mother-in-law that he would take his wife to his city on Wednesday itself.
The man’s father-in-law, brother-in-law explained to him that it is not auspicious to send his wife away on Wednesday, but the man did not agree. Being forced, the mother-in-law and father-in-law had to bid farewell to their son-in-law and daughter with a heavy heart. Husband and wife were going in a bullock cart. The wife felt thirsty as soon as she came out of a city. The husband took the pot and went to fetch water for his wife. When he returned with water, he saw that his wife was talking laughingly after drinking water from a pot brought by a stranger.
That stranger man was exactly like this man in appearance. Seeing this, the man started fighting with another man in a fit of rage. Gradually a large crowd gathered there. Meanwhile, a soldier also came. The soldier asked the woman, tell the truth, which of these two is your husband? But the woman remained silent because both the men were look alikes. Seeing his wife robbed like this in the middle of the way, the man started praying to Lord Shankar that oh God, save me and my wife from this trouble, I will be punished for the crime I have committed by sending my wife away on Wednesday. Excuse me.
I will not make such mistake in future. Shri Shankar Bhagwan was moved by the prayer of that man and at the same moment that other man disappeared somewhere. The man reached his city safely with his wife. After this, both husband and wife regularly started fasting on Wednesday Pradosh. Say hail Umapati Shankar Bhagwan.
